The Nurser Award 2017

Photo: Paul Bennett.

Nurser award to Emu, an FMC motor, built by Yarwoods in 1926.

The boat was later in the Willow Wren fleet as Tern, and was used by David Blagrove, when he worked for that company in 1962 -63.  As such it appeared on the illustration to the front cover of Bread Upon The Waters.   Emu’s current engine is a 15hp Bolinder. The boat moors on the River Lee, and despite the journey is a pretty regular attendee at Braunston rallies.

The award was received on behalf of the owner Michael Pinnock by David Warden owner of Dodona, which has attended every rally since the Rally started in 2003. The Buckby Can is being presented by Ian Burnage, Store Manager, Midland Chandlers, Braunston.  Also present Janet Richardson, Editor Towpath Talk and Tim Coghlan.

I find that in recent years, I have not actually taken a photograph of the EMU on its own.  Herewith one I scanned that appears in.  I think you could just get away with crediting them.  Historic Working Narrow Boats Today by David Williams & Peter Silvester
