The first motor boat noted in Charles Nurser's records is The Game Cock, built for Chas. Nelson & Co. in July 1923. Nurser Brothers (along with Tooleys, Faulkner Bros. of Linslade, Bushell Brothers of Tring and Lees & Atkins) were also involved in the conversion of horse drawn boats to diesel. By the advent of the diesel engine, many boat yards had ceased trading and consequently no more than a dozen yards built new motor boats. The most common engines were semi diesel single cylinder by either Bolinder or Petter.
